Mini tornado rips through WA town

Updated July 28, 2011 20:39:27

The State Emergency Service is urging people to prepare their homes for more bad weather tonight.

A number of properties in the South West town of Waroona sustained serious damage when a brief but violent storm passed through the town last night.

A severe weather warning remains current from a line south west from Jurien Bay to Bremer Bay.

SES spokesman Malcolm Piggot says with more bad weather on the way people need to prepare now.

"Tie down small garden sheds, tip trampolines upside down so the wind can't get under them and just generally clean up around the house bins; put them up so they can't blow away," he said.

Mr Piggott says he is amazed no one was injured in last night's storm.

"A lot of its luck and hopefully people are listening to our warnings about getting into safe positions in the houses and away from big plate glass windows," he said.
